Jalen Hurts, Eagles tie record with 4th straight comeback win

Josh Allen is defeated by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts in overtime, as the team defeats the Bills 37-34.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The Eagles fans, who had jeered the team off the field at halftime, went crazy in admiration for one more comeback and one more string of incredible plays that their franchise quarterback had made commonplace. Jalen Hurts celebrated by walking off the Linc field with his arms outstretched.

Think of a play in which Hurts rolled to his left and appeared to run out of options in the fourth quarter. He came to a stop, saw Olamide Zaccheaus through a mass of defenders, and hit the perfect pass to score the game's winning goal.

Or even the game-winning touchdown, a skillfully timed run by a quarterback who, despite playing with a bruised knee this season, went almost entirely unnoticed for a touchdown – just his fifth scoring play of the game, to boot.

"In that second half, he made a lot of really clutch plays," Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni stated. "And, of course, the big one at the very end."

Of course the answer is yes. It was, after all, Hurts. With 2:37 remaining in overtime, he streaked into the end zone from 12 yards out, and the Eagles defeated the Buffalo Bills 37-34 on a chilly, wet Sunday.

Hurts outperformed Josh Allen of Buffalo by throwing for three touchdowns and running for two more, helping the Eagles overcome a 17–7 halftime deficit for the second straight game.

You are aware of his clutches, Sirianni remarked. "For the past three years, he has been clutch for this team, clutch for this city, and clutch for us. He simply persisted, focused, and worked.

But Hurts needed assistance. With 20 seconds left, Jake Elliott of Philadelphia knotted the score with a 59-yard field goal in a gusting wind.

"Considering the circumstances, I think that was the hardest one I had to hit," Elliott remarked.

With twenty seconds remaining, the Bills (6-6) may have attempted a field goal try or at least a desperate heave or quick play. Instead, head coach Sean McDermott decided to have Allen take a knee.

Hurts scored a field goal to tie the score and make the Eagles the only 10-1 club in the NFL after the Bills took the lead with a field goal on the first play of overtime.

With two 17- and 11-yard grabs from him against DeVonta Smith in overtime, he also set up the walk-off touchdown with a 16-yard run from D'Andre Swift.

By ten points at the half, ten points in the third quarter, and three points late in regulation and early in overtime, the Eagles were behind.

Hurts remarked, "We made it happen at the last minute.

The Bills, who have won the AFC East the last three years, are in danger of missing the playoffs. Allen rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns and completed 339 yards through the air. However, James Bradbury intercepted him in the fourth quarter, which allowed Hurts to pass to Zaccheaus for a 29-yard touchdown, putting Philadelphia ahead 28–24.

Allen used a 15-yard scramble and a 15-yard roughing the passer penalty on the first drive of OT to put the Bills in position for the win. Tyler Bass — who had missed two field goals — nailed the go-ahead kick from 40 yards with 5:52 left in the extra period.

Hurts finished 18 of 31 for 200 yards with an interception in a matchup of two of the NFL’s most dynamic QBs. He also rushed 14 times for 65 yards.

With just 33 yards passing in the first half, Hurts had a terrible game compared to the Eagles' 99 yards total.

"The first half couldn't have been much worse," Sirianni remarked. "The second half was an explosive offensive display." That was necessary.

The front-runner for MVP inspired his group, just as he had in Kansas City one week prior. Hurts got Philly back into the game with passes to A.J. Brown for three yards and Smith for ten.

Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham stated, "I think it's the mindset that makes the difference." It's not as simple as "Jalen threw a pick." That is not how we feel. Whatever it is, take action to address it rather than whining about it.
